Q: How is the treatment given?
A: No anaesthetic is required. Using a very fine needle, small amounts of Sclérémo (a specialised product we import from France ) is injected into the veins that are bothering you. Sclérémo causes less irritation at the site of injection than older products, and avoids the discolouration sometimes seen at the site of sclerotherapy injections.
This procedure is done under magnification to allow pinpoint accuracy of the smallest veins. Up to forty minutes may be taken for this therapy: we prefer not to carry on for longer than this due to some patients finding prolonged procedures uncomfortable. There are usually no visible after effects from the injections, although occasionally a temporary swelling or bruising may occur.
Q: What do I need to do after the procedure?
You should avoid rubbing the area for up to one week. This means no shaving, waxing, rubbing or massaging creams or lotions. You should also try to avoid crossing your legs (if appropriate).
Swimming and bright sunlight should be avoided for one week.
Q: Are all people and all veins suitable for sclerotherapy?
A: No. Larger veins (varicose veins) do not respond to sclerotherapy. If you have varicose veins they may need to be assessed and treated surgically before any smaller thread veins can be successfully treated.
Although Medical Aesthetic do not carry out varicose vein surgery, either we or your GP will be able to recommend a vascular surgeon if you wish.
Rarely, some patients with poor quality or diseased skin on the legs or face will not be suitable for this treatment. It is also vital that you inform us if you have any history of venous thrombosis, blood-clotting problems, or are taking any anticoagulant (blood thinning) medicines. You must also tell us of any known or suspected allergies and if you think you may be pregnant.
Q: What side effects may occur?
The treated area may look rather irritated for a few days and we can discuss the use of concealing make up powder if you wish. Although we have never experienced any serious complications with this technique, there is always a tiny risk of infection or skin damage occurring with any injection anywhere in the body.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: Each treatment is £125 for the initial treatment and there after £110 per session, this includes treating both legs and all the thread veins present.
Q: How do I book a session?
A: Call us on 0844 893 9464
