Q: How is the treatment given?
A: Using a very fine needle your practitioner will inject small amount of a solution of Botox® into several places about 1cm apart and spread the injections evenly in each armpit. A dye is used to show up the areas where sweating is the greatest and to show us where the injections should be placed. A course of treatment takes approximately half an hour.
Q: What do I need to do after the procedure?
A: Carry on with your day as normal.
Q: What side effects may occur & can anybody have this treatment?
A: Every treatment has side effects in at least some patients. During clinical trials about 4.5 % of patients experienced an increase in sweating in another part of the body.
Certain of the following conditions would prevent you having this treatment as it would be contraindicated.
Pregnancy, breast feeding, trying to conceive, suffering from a muscular disorders like multiple sclerosis, taking antibiotics or drugs which relax muscles, have an allergy to eggs.
Q: How many sessions do I need to have?
A: On average the treatment should last up to six months and sometimes longer. The effects of Botox® will wear off over a period of several months. If you decide not to have any more treatment there will be no lasting change in the areas treated and sweating will gradually return to the level it was before you started treatment.
